Petroleum industry in Niger, Wikipedia

Petroleum industry in Niger. Niger has a long history of petroleum exploration dating back to the 1970s. However, it is only since 2011 with the opening of the Agadem oilfield and the Soraz refinery near Zinder that petroleum is being produced in Niger. The oil and gas extracted from the Agadem field are processed at the Soraz refinery.

The Niger–Benin Oil Pipeline, also known as Niger-Benin Export Pipeline ( NBEP ), is a 1,950 kilometer long crude oil pipeline connecting oilfields near the desert oasis of Agadem in Niger to the Atlantic Ocean. It ends in the Gulf of Guinea near Benin 's largest city Cotonou. The pipeline was built and is operated by the China National

The Niger–Benin pipeline, measuring 1950km and connecting the Agadem block in eastern Niger to the Beninese side of Sèmé, will be the longest pipeline in Africa. The construction work began on 5 July 2021. There are two other oil companies which also operate on other blocks in Niger: the Sonatrach Group (SIPEX) and Savannah Energy.

Niger to Begin Oil Exports Through New Pipeline Worth $2

Niger will hold a 25.4% stake in the pipeline venture. While Niger currently boasts a small oil refinery with a capacity of 20,000 bpd, primarily serving domestic fuel needs, Tiani emphasized the government's long-term vision of expanding refining capacity within the country. "Our desire is not to simply market crude oil," Tiani declared.

The country's crude is used locally or transported by road to neighboring Nigeria. However, Niger is on the verge of a long-awaited production surge, with CNPC due to complete the 110,000 b/d Niger-Benin export pipeline this year. In March, Niger's oil minister said it was 75% done.

Major oil pipeline set to help fuel Niger's growth

The $7 billion pipeline that is seen as a symbol of hope, upon which several major development projects depend, is set to transport crude oil to global markets, via the port of Seme on the coast of Benin from Niger's oil-prolific Agadem basin. According to the African Energy Chamber, Niger's overall growth rates are expected to reach double

The West African country currently has a small oil refinery with capacity of around 20,000 bpd which mostly supplies Niger's domestic fuel market. It aims to refine more oil locally, said Tiani, who seized power as the head of a military junta in a coup in July. "Our desire is not to market crude oil.
