Groundnuts are the main cash crop in Gambia. The crop takes up one third of the country’s arable land. One quarter of Gambia’s population is associated with groundnuts. The Saho family has grown groundnuts for three generations. Tasmir now oversees three of the nine largest groundnut processing plants in Gambia.
Step 1: Cleaning. After harvesting groundnut are received at processing facilities. Batches of harvested peanuts will contain whole peanuts in the shell, some shelled peanuts, and foreign objects (e.g., leaves, nodes, weed seed, etc.).
