Regional investment in oil crop processing in Rwanda
The plant is scheduled to have a ‘crushing capacity of 45,000 tons of oil seeds per annum’, with full capacity being attained in 5 years. According to Mt Meru Soyco, ‘the Project aims to make Rwanda a self- sufficient nation in terms of its consumption of quality edible oil.’
The main destination of Soybean Oil exports from Rwanda are: Kenya ($56.7k) and Turkey ($4). The fastest growing export markets for Soybean Oil of Rwanda between 2021 and 2022 were Kenya ($3.63k) and Turkey ($4). Imports In 2022, Rwanda imported $3.89M in Soybean Oil, becoming the 114th largest importer of Soybean Oil in the world.
Rwanda to boost local production of edible oil with US$10m
Rwanda produces at least 80,000 metric tonnes of edible oil every year and imports an average of 125,000 metric tonnes. In 2019, Rwanda only exported 37,399 kilogrammes of cooking oil, which generated Rwf257.8 million (US$256,000) while re-exports were equivalent to 42,664,161 kilogrammes worth Rwf33.7 billion (US$33.5m).

Soybean Oil Processing Byproducts and Their Utilization
Refining of soybean oil, to make a neutral, bland-flavored, and light-colored oil, results in several by-products. The by-products consist of various mixtures of phosphatides, unsaponifiables, glycerides, free fatty acids, and soap. Lecithin contains mostly hydratable phosphatides, together with some free fatty acids and neutral oil (glycerides).
NOPA members produce meal and oil from oilseeds through a solvent extraction process, employing modern technologies to meet food safety and federal permitting requirements and ensure worker safety. Below is a standard flow chart that illustrates the various stages of a soybean as it journeys through a processing plant to become meal and oil. View […]
Organic soybean oil pressing plant
Farmet’s soybean pressing plant combines mechanical and thermal processing to help you obtain maximum oil yield. It provides you with a combination of extrusion and subsequent oil pressing, which enables you to yield high quality press cake and oil. This is achieved by heating of the grinded seeds during extrusion, which makes pressing easy
The responsibility of soybean and soybean oil-processing plant management is to ensure expected performance results over the operating life of the asset. The performance objectives are to provide timely customer service, deliver high-quality products, operate at a competitive cost, produce at operating-capacity volume, give top priority to

This owchart is an illustrative diagram of standardized steps employed in the processing of soybeans. The steps employed may vary from plant to plant and from oilseed to oilseed. SOYBEAN
Soybean meal is produced by different processing methods such as solvent extraction (soybean flakes 1.5% oil), and mechanical extraction by screw press (soymeal press cake >5% oil). Soymeal accounts for 62.5% of total oil meal and it also represents the 61% protein source to feed livestock (A. et al., 2011).
