The extraction process of oil from seed results in sunflower meal, or sunflower oilcake, which is a valuable by-product in the feed industry.
The total world trade in sunflower oil were US$2 billion in 2009. The annual growth in the value of the worlds sunflower oil exports were 22% annually since 2006. As the annual growth in the quantity exported is, 8% over the last 4 years, the growth in value (22%) is much higher than the growth in quantity.
