This segment comprises oil palm plantation and sugar milling activities, which include the cultivation and milling of palm oil and sugarcane. As at 31 December 2020, our total planted area stands at 232,053 hectares (ha). Through joint ventures, we own plantations in Uganda and West Africa totalling approximately 46,000 ha. We
An overview of palm oil biomass for power generation sector
The palm oil industries have been claimed to be a significant contributor to global warming through GHG emissions from the land-use change of palm oil expansion and the milling residual biomass. Lee et al. ( 2018 ) reported that palm oil was included among the agriculture activities that contributed to the second-highest GHG emissions by the economic sector.
Palm oil is the world’s most-produced vegetable oil that is serving as an important source of food and energy for many developing and underdeveloped countries. The global demand for palm oil will continue to rise, owing to the growing population and economy. Presently, tremendous efforts have been devoted to improving the sustainability of palm oil production. One strategy is to improve the
Sustainability in Palm Oil Processing Industry
LNG replaces diesel. LNG system was commissioned in July 2019 starting at Refinery 2 and Refinery 3. The more environmental-friendly LNG replaced diesel for Geka boilers and reduced carbon footprint. LNG has an emission of 0.0758 kg CO2 eq/MJ which is lower than the emission of diesel rated at 0.0876kg CO2 eq/MJ.
Morocco has lost its oil storage capacity and must import all distillates. 72 The government-run SAMIR refinery had gone into service in 1962 to increase Morocco’s fuel security. 73 In 1997, SAMIR was taken over by a Saudi company as part of a broader market liberalization initiative. 74 After a long period of insolvency, the Moroccan government provided $500 million to refinance SAMIR in
Palm oil mill biomass boiler characteristics and its operating
A few studies have been done related to the particulate emission from the palm oil mill boiler. the average particle emission concentration obtained at stack was 5.84 ±1.88 g/Nm3 @ corrected to 7
The mass balance of the palm oil process is shown in Fig. 2 with solid waste (biomass) as the concern. During palm oil processing, a palm oil mill with 30 tones/h capacity can convert FFB into solid waste with 22.49% EFB, 10.62% fibers, and 5.2% shell.
Investigation of influence factors and surface treatment on palm oil
Palm Oil Fuel Ash (POFA) and Palm Oil Boiler Ash (POBA) are the two principal biomass byproducts of the palm oil industry (POBA) [19]. Every year, POFA and POBA are estimated to generate 4 million tons of solid waste in the boiler [20]. POBA was used as an alternative absorbent in the palm oil refining process.
The average particulate concentration for these five mills is 2.2±0.9g/Nm 3 and the air pollution control requirement are between 64 and 96% with reference to Clean Air Regulations 2014 of 0.15g/Nm 3 which is very high to be achieve. It also can be estimated that 26% of the ash generated from the combustion of palm fibre and shell in palm oil
