Dewaxing. Rice bran oil contains up to 20% of high temperature melting saturated fatty acids, which makes it difficult to dewax this oil at lower temperature such as 8 or 10 °C. The dewaxing can be done in the oil phase as well as in the miscella phase by winterizing without or with suitable additives.
Previous studies reported the γ-oryzanol content of 0.19–0.20% (248–887 mg/100 g) in chemically refined RBO , 1.75–18.49 mg/g in Chiang Mai black rice, Mali red rice, and Suphanburi-1 Brown rice bran oil by different extraction methods (hexane extraction, hot press, cold press, supercritical fluid extraction) , and 1.5–2.9% in crude RBO .

Rice bran oil (RBO) is unique among edible vegetable oils because of its unique fatty acid composition, phenolic compound (γ-oryzanol, ferulic acid) and vitamin E (tocopherol and tocotrienol). It has become a great choice of cooking oil because of its very high burning point, neutral taste and delicate flavour.
The nutritional qualities and health effects of rice bran oil are also established. RBO is rich in unsaponifiable fraction (unsap), which contains the micronutrients like vitamin E complexes, gamma oryzanol, phytosterols, polyphenols and squalene. However, the high FFA and acetone-insoluble content of RBO made it difficult for processing.
