Cold pressed onion (Allium cepa L.) seed oil
The oil yield of cold pressed onion seed oil was 21.1% (Topkafa, 2016), which is higher than the oil yield from Soxhlet extraction and supercritical fluid extraction. The cold pressed onion seed oil also had higher MUFA (26.6%), PUFA (58.7%), and total tocopherol content (2506.3 mg/kg) than the Soxhlet extraction method ( Topkafa, 2016 ).
The effects of pressure, temperature and extraction time on the yield of oil were investigated. The maximum extraction yield of 4.69 ± 0.04 g/kg dry basis was achieved at a pressure of 20.6 MPa, a temperature of 40.6 °C, a time of 260 min, a CO 2 flow rate of 22 L h –1 , and an entrainer ratio of 0.1 mL absolute ethanol per gram dry basis.
