Yield and quality of chia oil extracted via different methods
Extraction of the chia oil using a cold solvent was performed according to Timilsena et al. (2017). The ground chia seed was mixed with n -hexane in a ratio of 1:10 (chia seed: solvent). To intensify the cold extraction yield, pretreatment of the sample was performed for 15, 30 and 60 min in an ultrasonic bath.
The Journal of Food Process Engineering is devoted to the engineering aspects of food processing, providing a vital source for food, agricultural, biological, & chemical engineers.
Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) oil extraction: Study of processing parameters
L.) oil extraction: Study of processing parameters. The processing parameters related with chia oil extraction employing screw press have not been studied yet. A Box–Behnken experimental design was used to study the optimization process by response surface analysis. The independent variables considered were seed moisture content, restriction
Partially defatted chia flour (PDCF) is a by-product of oil extraction from chia seeds (Salvia hispanica L.). It may be used as an ingredient to improve food products, especially due to its antioxidant properties. In this work, we studied the best screw press extraction conditions that allow preserving the antioxidant properties of PDCF. A central composite design was applied to perform a
Bioactive Phytochemicals from Chia Seed (Salvia hispanica) Oil Processing By-Products
Over the years, several extraction techniques have been developed to produce chia oil. One of the usual methods reported for oil extraction from raw chia seeds is Soxhlet extraction using nonpolar organic, conventional solvents [8, 16,17,18].Knez Hrnčič et al. [] mentioned that Soxhlet extraction has some advantages, as it keeps the oil functional characteristics, it is simple, and it has a

Optimization and characterization of chia seed (Salvia hispanica L.) oil extraction using supercritical carbon dioxide
A large amount of PUFAs found in this study (84.8–85.4 %) are similar to Australian chia seed oils extracted by petroleum ether (85.85 %) and Argentinean chia seed oils obtained by Soxhlet and cold pressing extraction (85–85.4 %), but higher than chia seed8, ,
makes it dif cult to extract oil due to the formation of an external chia mucilage that reduces. the yield of obtained oil. Dąbrowski et al. (2017) performed a hot-pressing extraction

This different between extraction methodologies were also found by Carelli et al. (2002) in hybrid sunflower oils. Figs. 2 and 4 show the profiles of tocopherol and polyphenolic compounds of the two independent sets of chia seed oils obtained by solvent and pressing
This study was conducted to show impact of supercritical fluid extraction using pure SC-CO2 or SC-CO2 enriched by 2, 6, and 10% of acetone, simultaneously varied by the extraction time (1 vs. 5 h), on the quality of chia seed oils. Obtained oils were relatively similar in the fatty acid composition, but they differed in total content of phytochemicals (from 4956 to 6391 mg/kg of oil). Among
