• The domestic market for sunflower oil has increased significantly, due to population growth and changing con-sumption patterns. Production of sunflower oil increased from 29,200 tonnes in 2000 to 76,900 tonnes in 2012 (FAOSTAT, 2013). Vegetable oil is now exported regionally, with Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania being the main buyers.
In 2019 Uganda exported 7,565 tonnes of sunflower oil. In 2019 alone, the interest in Uganda sunflower oil (processed category) has gone up, flactuating by 85.28 % compared to the year 2018. Between 2017 and 2019, sunflower oil's exports increased by 342.14 percent bringing the country US$11.11m for the year 2019.
