Extraction, phytochemistry, nutritional, and therapeutical
Methods of extraction of rice bran oil and the corresponding phytochemistry, nutritional and therapeutical potentials were reviewed. A methodological approach employed by Emmanuel et al. (Emmanuel et al., 2023) were adopted with slight modification. The search was performed by using relevant keywords such as rice bran oil, phytochemicals
Recent data demonstrated that rice bran extracts and fermented rice bran play an important role in attenuating inflammation (Yu et al., 2019). γ-tocotrienol of RBO has potential to reduce pancreatic tumour growth by inhibiting the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)-mediated inflammatory micro- environment.
Rice Bran Oil: Emerging Trends in Extraction, Health Benefit
Abstract: Rice bran oil (RBO) is unique among edible vegetable oils because of its unique fatty acid composition, phenolic compound (γ-oryzanol, ferulic acid) and vitamin E (tocopherol and tocotrienol). It has become a great choice of cooking oil because of its very high burning point, neutral taste and delicate flavour.
1. Introduction. Rice bran is the rough brown layer sandwiched between the outer husk of paddy and its endosperm (kernel), as shown in Figure 1.The bran constitutes roughly 8% of a rice grain before milling and is a source of many nutrients, such as lipids (20–29%), carbohydrates (20–27%, including fibers), proteins (10–15%), B-complex vitamins, minerals, as well as a variety of
Physicochemical characterization of microwave-stabilized rice
Rice bran is one of the main byproducts of rice-processing industries, making approximately 10% of the total mass of rice kernels. It is rich in bioactive phytochemicals, which have several health benefits. Among others, rice bran contains 10%–23% oil, constituting the major bioactive elements of the bran. The aim of this work is therefore to evaluate rice bran oil obtained from Ethiopian

wide gap between the production and utilization of rice bran. The annual RBO production potential in world is around 3.5 MT out of which only 1.5 MT is produced presently [6]. Abundant paddy production and bran being cheap source of oil (12-25% oil) are the main reasons behind utilisation of rice bran for oil extraction. Also, de-oiled bran being a
Brown Rice is obtained after de-husking paddy and is followed by the removal of bran to obtain white rice. Bran is abundant in oil, protein, and minerals, while the endosperm contains a high amount of starch. Parboiling of rice improves the nutrient contents inside the rice kernel.
Enzyme‐assisted water‐extraction of oil and protein from rice
Enzymatic water-extraction of oil and proteins from rice bran was studied in a laboratory-scale set-up. The effects of the following enzymes – Celluclast 1.5L, hemicellulase, Pectinex Ultra SP-L, Viscozyme L, Alcalase 0.6L and papain – on oil and protein extraction yields, and the level of reducing sugars in the extract were investigated.
