Artisanal refining of crude oil in the Niger Delta: A
Environmental degradation arising from oil production activities and artisanal crude oil refining is a growing menace in most oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta, Nigeria (Ite et al
By artisanal oil refining, we mean small-scale crude oil processing or subsistent distillation of petroleum that is often outside the boundaries of the state law. This study links the continual failure of the clean-up programme in the Niger Delta to the booming artisanal crude oil-refining economy in the region.
Artisanal Petroleum Refining and Occupational Dynamics
This study examines the occupational dynamics of the population as a result of artisanal refining of crude oil in the Niger Delta using structured questionnaire administered to 240 household heads

Continuous distillation, a form of distillation, is an ongoing separation in which a mixture is continuously (without interruption) fed into the process and separated fractions are removed continuously as output streams.
Comparison between the original plant design, the preflash
Crude oil distillation systems are the most energy-consuming in chemical plants; it was evaluated that the energy required for such industries is equivalent to 2% of total crude oil processed
The 6,000 b/d modular refinery was launched in September 2021 and is running at full capacity. Its production includes 50% gasoil, 28% naphtha and the rest is 0.5% fuel oil. The expansion is expected to be completed in 2023. Upon the completion, the refinery will be producing naphtha, ULSD, ULSFO and LPG.

Overview. Crude distillation is the first step in processing crude oil into its different end products, including gasoline, kerosene, diesel, jet fuel, asphalt, and more. Crude stills are the oldest means for processing oil. The purpose of crude distillation is to recover the light materials from the oil. This process begins with a fractional
Crude oil exploration is a source of significant revenue in Africa via trade and investment since its discovery in the mid-19th Century. Crude oil has bolstered the continent’s economy and improved the wellbeing of the citizenry. Historically, Africa has suffered from conflicts due to uneven redistribution of crude oil revenue and severe environmental pollution. Advancements in geophysical
Energy saving in a crude distillation unit by a preflash
Real data plant were collected to obtain a reliable simulation of the unit by means of the software package Aspen Plus 13.0. To characterize the crude oil fed the TBP curve was used. The results obtained were compared with the plant data in terms of flow rate and product quality utilizing the ASTM D-86 curves and a good agreement was obtained.
Furnace is a fired heater where the crude oil is brought at the desired inlet temperature of the preflash drum or the distillation column. Usually crude units contain furnaces before the preflash, the atmospheric and the vacuum columns. Fuel oil, gas oil or natural gas are used as fuels in furnaces for the heating crude oil. Preflash drum
