Loop Solvent Extractor Explained, saVRee
Extractors are used in the oil seed industry for extracting oil from seed (rape seed, sunflower etc.). The type of extractor shown in this 3D model is a continuous loop extractor. Oil can be extracted from oleaginous materials mechanically, or using the solvent extraction method. Where solvent extraction is used, the associated machine is
zontal extractors is similar to the basket-type extractors, but the baskets rotate in a single horizontal plane rather than verti-cally. A popular rotary-type design, Rotocel® Extractor, holds the flaked seeds in cells, which rotate in a horizontal plane around a vertical axis. The extractor has four countercurrent extraction stages.

Bollman extractor ( Figure 6.5) is a continuous moving-bed perforated basket type of extractor. The solids are loaded into baskets attached to a chain conveyor. ... View in full-text
Early designs based on percolation were basket-type extractors in which flaked seeds were placed in baskets with perforated bottoms. These systems look like an enclosed bucket elevator. The baskets are supported by endless chains in a sealed housing and continuously raised and lowered at a slow rate (1 revolution per hour).
Desmet, Extraction
The seed, having been properly prepared, is separated into a crude oil fraction and a protein meal fraction by solvent extraction. The extractor utilizes a countercurrent, multi-stage washing with commercial hexane solvent to enable a reasonable quantity of solvent to extract a maximum quantity of oil.
Oil content of baobab seeds is about 10 – 30%. The cleaned Baobab Seeds are subjected to conditioning in a vertical / horizontal stack cooking kettle. The kettle uses steam for indirectly heating the Baobab Seeds. The kettle is specially designed to achieve a temperature of minimum 110°C at the outlet with a retention time of minimum 60 minutes.
Technologies for extraction of oil from oilseeds and other
The traditional methods of oil extraction are exhaustive and have low efficacy, while conventional method of mechanical pressing is simple and involves low cost but considered as an inefficient method because of low oil recovery when compared with chemical extraction methods. Due to higher oil recovery and economic gains, chemical methods of
In this method, either a manual ram press or an engine-driven screw press is used for the extraction of oil. It has been observed that the ram press can extract around 60%–65% of oil while an engine-driven screw press can extract around 68%–80% of the available oil from seeds. The design of the mechanical press is very important as it plays
Immersion vs. percolation in the extraction of oil from
The Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society publishes original research and technological advances on fats, oils, oilseed proteins, and related materials. Abstract The influence of the two contact modes, percolation and immersion, during the extraction of oilseeds by means of a solvent are presented.
7.2.1 Cold Pressed Oil. Nowadays, and comparing with oils obtained by conventional solvent extractions, cold-pressed oils attracted much more worldwide interest thanks to their nutritional and health benefits as well as their richness in bioactive components (Nederal et al. 2012), and leads to an increase in the demand for bioactive compounds of plant origin (Czaplicki et al. 2011).
