Announcing our new shea facility in Tema Ghana, Bunge
Operational since 2019, the facility is BLCs first shea processing plant in Africa and the largest of its kind on the continent. The facility is a fully automated solvent fractionation plant that processes raw shea butter made from locally collected and crushed shea nuts, said Antoine Turpin, General Manager West Africa at BLC.

The politics of policy failure in Ghana: The case of oil palm
Highlights. •. Oil palm, which has been one of the most important cash crops in Ghana since independence, has continued to underperform in spite of the sustained policy attention devoted to it. •. The value chain has two separate segments in the value chain, each with its own internal organization.
Dry Fractionation. 1. Historical perspective. In edible oil processing, a fractionation process consists of a controlled cooling of the oil, thereby inducing a partial, or ‘fractional’, crystallization. The remaining liquid (olein) is then separated from the solid fraction (stearin) by means of a filtration or centrifugation.
Dry fractionation in palm oil production, KROHNE
Dry fractionation is used to separate RBD palm oil into olein and stearin. The typical process consists of a crystallisation section and a filtration section. During crystallisation, RBD palm oil is heated and then cooled under a controlled cooling program. The fractionation system uses a vertical cylindrical vessel full of water which is

A Review on the Fundamentals of Palm Oil Fractionation
The various fraction of palm oil allows it to be used in different types of food products such as margarine, frying oil, and cocoa butter substitute. In fractionation, proper control of the fractionation conditions is important to produce the fractions with desirable stearin and olein quality.
Accordingly, palm oil is fractionated to yield a first stearin and a first olein. Then the stearin is fractionated to yield hard, second stearin and a second olein fraction that is mixed with the first olein. The main claim of this application specifies the first step of the process as “fractionating the oil.”.
Sustainable Practices of IOI Palm Oil and Palm Kernel
These two measures (LED lights and inverters) resulted in 2.5% reduction in energy consumption. Steam condensate and fugitive steam recovery resulted in reduction of 41% and 20% in the palm kernel dry fractionation plant and dry fractionation plant’s steam consumption. Heat recovery in the refinery, resulted in energy savings of 30%.
The total annual production of the top vegetable 17 oils and fats is predicted to reach 193.8 million tons by 2014 (Bloomberg, 2013), more than three quarters of this total coming from just four plant species—palm, canola (rapeseed), soya, and sunflower oil—leaving the world use of shea as just a small percentage of the total.
