Coega Biomass Centre, Partners for Innovation
In Port Elizabeth, South Africa, a plant for the production of pellets from solid biomass residues will be put into operation again: Coega Biomass Centre. iLive (SA), Partners for Innovation (NL) and FinCo Fuel Group have teamed up to uprooting alien invasive trees, provide the local community and industrie with clean energy and create hundreds
Alien Invasive Plants (IAPs) will become a major feedstock source for pellet production. Estimations from studies show that the capacity of the factory will be enough to clear 900 ha of AIP’s per year, thereby saving up to 3 million m³ of water. Feedstock supply contracts for the first 2,5 years of production have been signed.
Production Facility, Coega Biomass Centre
The factory is expected to be operational in the autumn of 2022. Coega Biomass Centre is an existing pellet plant situated in the Special Economic Zone, in Coega, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and 7 km from the deep-sea port facility in Coega. It is capable of processing 180.000 tons of wet biomass and outputting 120.000 ton pellets per annum
The production of palm oil has resulted in devastating environmental damage and human rights abuses, despite providing income to rural communities in poorer nations. Indonesia is the largest producer of palm oil, followed by Malaysia and Thailand, with several other African and South American countries also producing significant amounts.
Refuse Derived Fuel Pellets as a Renewable Energy Source
This study focuses on the production of coarse RDF pellets. Interwaste announced the launch of South Africa’s first RDF plant. in 2016 [13]. The plant capacity of waste . converted to fuel currently stands at 12. 000 tons for use in South Africa’s manufacturing sector [13]. The . South African white paper on renewable energy 2003 set a
Palm kernel shells (PKS) have long been an important source of energy, primarily used by palm oil mills to fuel their operations. For over ten years Europe has imported PKS for use in cofiring and dedicated biomass-fired power and CHP plants, albeit in relatively small volumes. However, it has been the rapid growth of biomass use in Japan and
SOUTH AFRICA: Coega plant to resume production of biomass pellets
Southern Africa. Coega Biomass Centre will rehabilitate the biomass pellet production plant in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Coega Biomass Centre is a joint venture between Hive Energy, iLive Sustainable Development and Partners for Innovation. The plant was acquired from Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).
