Palm Oil Industry in Nigeria: Value Chain Analysis
With a population of 140 million by the 2006 census, Nigeria would require annually 1,722,000 tons of vegetable oils & fats to meet the national requirement for food and non-food uses. From the analysis of the sector, total palm oil and palm kernel oil production per annum is currently at most about 741,800.
A palm oil mill typically adopts a solvent-free process that uses steam and water for oil extraction. Interestingly, the process to extract the oil from the palm fruitlets has remained relatively unchanged for the past 50 years. Figure 1 shows the block flow diagram of a typical palm oil mill for the production of crude palm oil. The major unit
FEASIBILITY REPORT FOR ESTABLISHING A SMALL SCALE OIL PALM
2. Availability of inputs; oil palm produce are generally available, the technology for fabricating oil palm processing mills are available locally, labour is generally cheap, and locating the Mill in the area identified will ease access to raw materials. 3. Oil palm milling open opportunities to establishing plantations, and producing further

Improving Sustainability of Palm Oil Production by Increasing
The oil recovery from PPF can contribute to an OER increase of approximately 0.46% to 0.6%. Out of approximately 450 palm oil mills in Malaysia, only about 10 to 15 mills are installed with the PPF solvent extraction plants. The total production capacity is ap-proximately 1500 to 2000 tons of crude fibre oil monthly.
An oil extraction rate of 20% has been applied (applicable to the GSOPP hybrid grown), and translates to 528 tonne crude palm oil (PO) per month. At a rate of 85% utilization, and processing of 26,928 tonne fresh fruit bunches, 5,386 tonne of crude palm oil would be produced per annum. The process flow for the proposed oil palm mill is:

Field visit/data collection: Ten smallholder’s oil palm processing sites were visited at Elele, River State, Niger Delta region of Nigeria from 13-22 April 2012. Oil palm is processed in batches at all the milling sites depending on the availability of FFB. The process of oil palm extraction at these sites is basically the same and
Production of a bioflocculant from Aspergillus niger using
This study shows that A. niger is a bioflocculant-producing microorganism, which produced bioflocculant named PM-5. The new bioflocculant (PM-5) was optimally produced from palm oil mill effluent as carbon source and glutamic acid as nitrogen source. PM-5 showed a significant flocculating rate of kaolin suspension in the presence of Ca 2+ ion
In accordance with the 2018 report of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) greenhouse gas working group, 62.3% of the greenhouse gases emitted from oil palm mills are contributed by POME (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, 2018). Thus, whilst the oil palm industry is benefitting from a highly profitable commodity, its commitment to
