Greenhouse gas and energy balance of Jatropha biofuel
Jatropha curcas has been introduced as a low-cost energy crop in Burkina Faso for the production of straight vegetable oil (SVO) and biodiesel. It is cultivated in different plantation systems including smallholder inter-plantings with annual crops, large-scale monoculture, afforestation on marginal land, in traditional hedge systems along contour stone walls, and in living fences.

Insights into biofuel development in Burkina Faso: Potential
Jatropha curcas is a traditional crop in Burkina Faso and its oil is traditionally used to manufacture soap. Much of the current interest in Jatropha curcas is focused on the benefits of its toxicity [26] , i.e., the resulting oil is not edible and thus the plant can be used to protect crops from livestock and, moreover, it grows well on
Description. The project aims to validate the potential of Greenhouse Gas reduction through the promotion of Jatropha Curcas oil as a substitute to Diesel in Burkina-Faso. Objectives. Develop the potential of Greenhouse Gas reduction through the promotion of Jatropha oil as a substitute to Diesel in Burkina-Faso. USD $1,363,636.
Toward A Methodology For Sustainable Design Of Jatropha
The interest in using Jatropha curcas L. (JCL) as a feedstock for the production of bio-diesel is rapidly growing. The properties of the crop and its oil have persuaded investors, policy makers
Mature Jatropha seeds have been collected in the Toma region of Burkina Faso. The seeds were sun-dried ... Moreover jatropha oil showed high K and Na content (> 2 ppm), the elements that promote

The cultivation of the biofuel crop Jatropha curcas L. in Burkina Faso may contribute to ameliorating the soil fertility of severely declining cropland through increased organic matter input and erosion control.
TOWARD A METHODLOGY FOR SUSTAINABLE DESIGN OF JATROPHA-BASED
Jatropha Curcas (Jatropha) has been identified as the most suitable feedstock for biofuel industry development. Considering the socio-economic issues and the commitment of the government in the Millennium Development Goals, the most promoted scheme for biofuel sector development is the production of straight vegetable oil (SVO) by small-scale
21 Jan 2013. Project Closed. 19 Mar 2021. Develop the potential of Greenhouse Gas reduction through the promotion of Jatropha oil as a substitute to Diesel in Burkina-Faso. The project will facilitate the removal of barriers to the sustainable production and utilization of Jatropha oil as agrofuel in Burkina Faso.
