Deodorization, AOCS
2. Deodorization principle. Deodorization is actually a stripping process in which a given amount of a stripping agent (usually steam) is passed for a given period of time through hot oil at a low pressure. Hence, it is mainly a physical process in which various volatile components are removed.
Conventional deodorization for refining vegetable oil involves evaporating volatile molecules by applying high temperatures (240–260 C) for 2–3 h. It inevitably leads to a degradation of the
Deodorization Process, Oil Refinery
Deodorization Process is the forth step in vegetable oil refining which commences after finishing the bleaching. Deodorization holds a big impact on the refined oil quality and is often considered as the heart of the entire edible oil refining method.
Trust Alfa Laval deodorization systems to get rid of odour and volatile substances that degrade oil quality and maximize your edible oil yield. Reliable, versatile, easy-to-operate deodorization systems for edible oil refining. Vast experience in optimizing deodorization systems to meet process requirements. Maximum product quality and yield.
Deodorization
Batch deodorization is the original method utilized for edible oils, and some few refiners still use it for small odd-lot quantities of specialty oils. Traditionally, these systems consist of a vacuum vessel containing internal heating and cooling coils and stripping steam injection apparatus, steam jet ejector vacuum equipment, high-temperature heating media source, and polish filtration.
Chemical refining consists of removing free fatty acids by adding caustic soda and separating the soap by centrifugation (mechanical separation) [ 29 ], while physical refining, in the last step, removes free fatty acids and other compounds by steam distillation. This process is also known as steam refining [ 29 – 32 ].
Vacuum systems and the edible oil refinery process
Vacuum systems provide suitable vacuum conditions for decolourization and deodorization in edible oil refineries. Both are highly critical processes, and a stable and reliable vacuum system plays a crucial role in ensuring high-quality outcomes. The temperatures required for an effective decolourization process range from 105℃ to 110
Deodorization is an absolute necessity in processing edible fats and oils. How efficiently it is done determines what you can achieve in your processing operations as a whole, in terms of removing odours, pigments and volatile substances. In this specialist field, Alfa

From Fig. 5.2 above, we can see that these six process parameters have a significant influence on the FFA content. Since the p-values are less than 0.05 and the VIF values are less than 10. Normality Test Figure 5.3a shows that the P-Value is 0.639, which are higher than 0.05. shows that the P-Value is 0.639, which are higher than 0.05.
