Cameroon has natural gas reserves estimated to be 4.8 billion cubic feet. Much of this gas remains undeveloped. Fig. 6 shows that the oil rent increased sharply between 1977 and 1980 due to the start of crude oil production in Cameroon and the rise in crude oil prices. It increased again from 1982 to 1985 thanks to the increase in crude oil production in a context marked by a slight rise in the price of crude oil from 1982 to 1983 and a fall in the latter between 1984 and 1985.
