Although Cameroon, the largest palm oil producer in Central Africa, produced more than 450,000 tons in 2020, it still imports about 60,000 tons a year to meet its domestic demand. Most of the imported palm oil comes from Indonesia, Malaysia and Gabon.

Oil Palm Development in Cameroon
Palm oil (Elæisguineensis) is a plant native to the countries bordering the Gulf of Guinea. Extracted from the pulp of the fruit, palm oil is rich in fatty saturated acids, and solid at room temperature. As all vegetable oils, palm oil does not contain cholesterol. Palm oil, with an annual global production of 50 million tons, equating to 39%
Based around our advanced, 3-phase PANX decanter, Alfa Laval D3 PRO is the industry’s only all-in-one processing solution that can process undiluted crude palm oil with consistent performance, even at high capacities. D3 PRO requires no dilution water, meaning a reduction in water and effluent of up to 20% – and major OPEX savings from day one.
Case Study on Reducing Food Loss in Palm Oil in Cameroon
It is estimated that in Southwest Cameroon, a top producing palm oil region of Africa, 67% of oil palm expansion from 2000-2015 occurred at the expense of forest. In Cameroon, food loss in palm oil is primarily driven by on-farm loss and processing loss i.e. harvest of unripe fresh fruit bunches (equivalent of 1% CPO loss) and extraction related loss (9-15% CPO loss), respectively.
Accepted 07 February, 2011. Oil palm is the highest oil producing plant, with an average yield of 3.5 tons of oil/ha/year. In 2006, palm oil became the world’s most important edible oil with 37
