Background situation in Tanzania Palm oil ranks second among the main agricultural imports in Tanzania after wheat and before malt, refined sugar and fatty acids (FAOSTAT). In 2008, Tanzania imported 183,016 tonnes (t) of palm oil worth US$175,457,000 (FAO 2011), which was nearly as much as the US$181,972,000 spent for importing 452,124 t of wheat.
Feasibility Study for the Edible Oils Sector in Tanzania
6 Palm oil is currently dependent on imports, with very little local palm fruit production. Import substitution will only become viable after significant barriers are addressed *Consumption is used as a proxy for demand, and estimated as production + imports –exports
3707. Tanzanian research institutes have discovered new high yielding palm oil seeds that is set to boost the cultivation of the trees and production of the edible oil in the country. The new variety of the palm oil seeds called Terena has gone through trials in some of the cultivation areas in the country such as Kigoma, Kagera, Tabora

The complete set palm oil processing machine includes palm oil extraction process (how palm oil is extracted), palm kernel oil extraction process and palm oil/palm kernel oil refining process. Oil palm is an important tropic oil seed plant. The palm oil content is very high: common fresh fruit :45~50% , palm kernel :50~55%.
Strengthening Palm Oil Seedlings Production and Distribution for a Sustainable Palm Oil Production Model in Tanzania, Food and Agriculture
More than 3 million seeds produced and a national investment plan to foster sustainable oil palm production. By 31 st December 2022, 3,521,000 seeds have been produced ( 100.6% of the target). From the produced seeds, 951,000 seedlings have been raised ( 47.5% of the target).
A further pivotal decision to improve competitiveness was at least maintaining the import tariff on palm oil – 10 percent for crude palm oil and 25 percent for refined palm oil. These tax and tariff changes have put Tanzania on the path to transforming the entire sector by prompting investors to pursue hybrid seed production, processing and other investments in the sunflower space.
