Castor Oil Manufacturing Process Flowchart, How to Start a Castor Oil Plant, Oil Expeller
Step 4: Castor Seed Pressing. A screw oil press machine is used to crush the castor oil-seeds to facilitate removal of the oil. The first phase of this extraction is called pre-pressing. After pressing oil is collected and filtered and the filtered material is combined back with new, fresh seeds for repeat extraction.
Castor oil extraction yield of up to 35% was reported by Mosquera-Artamonov et al. [42] while using mechanical hydraulic press expeller. Further, it was also reported that with increase in

Bioactive Phytochemicals from Castor ( Ricinus communis Linneo) Seed Oil Processing By-products, SpringerLink
Castor (Ricinus communis Linneo) belongs to the plant family of Euphorbiaceae and is a crop intensively cultivated to produce oil from its seeds. There is a high demand of oil on the international market since oil extraction is economically favorable and oil has...
The conditions for ethanol extraction that gave high oil yield were as follows: extraction temperature of 70 C, extraction time of 7 h, solvent-to-solid ratio of 6 : 1, particle size of 0.5–0.8
Home, Springer, Sustainability assessment of Ricinus communis biodiesel using LCA Approach, Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy
The life cycle of Castor bean-based biodiesel includes the stages of cultivation, oil extraction, biodiesel production, and biodiesel’s transportation to fuel station (well-to-tank system). The functional unit of this study was 1 ton of biodiesel production, and the impact categories studied were global warming, energy balance, human health, and ecosystem quality.
Abstract—Bean conditions, processing temperature and pressing time, solvent type and solvent-solid ratio were studied to optimize oil yield from castor beans. A maximum yield of 50.16% was obtained in this study. Moisture content of 3-3.6% was found compared to the range of 5-7% reported in literature.
Extraction, Characterization and Modification of Castor Seed Oil
H. Janson. Engineering. 1974. 4. This paper carried out experimental study, through extraction and characterization of both crude and refined castor oil. Normal hexane was used as solvent for the extraction process. The oil produced was refined through degumming, neutralization and bleaching process using local adsorbent (activated clay).
The oil content of castor bean seed ranges from 35 to 65% (50% average). This variation is largely due to genetic differences between cultivars (Yadav and Anjani 2017 ). Castor oil is composed of up to 90% ricinoleic acid (RA, 18:1OH), an oleic acid derivative (OA, 18:1) hydroxylated in the 12-carbon that bears interesting chemical properties.
