4. Oilseeds and oilseed products | OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2023-2032, OECD iLibrary
This chapter describes market developments and medium-term projections for world oilseed markets for the period 2023-32. Projections cover consumption, production, trade and prices for soybean, other oilseeds, protein meal, and vegetable oil. The chapter concludes with a discussion of key risks and uncertainties which could have implications
The vegetable oil aggregate in this OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook includes oil obtained from the crushing of oilseeds (about 55% of world vegetable oil production) and palm oil (36%), as well as palm kernel, coconut and cottonseed oils (Figure 4.1). In view of a slowdown in the expansion of the mature oil palm area, further production growth in
Oilseeds and oilseed products | OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2020-2029, OECD iLibrary
The price of oilseeds and oilseed products increased in 2019 as supply increased slower than demand. Stocks, however, remain ample. The assumed stable real price of crude oil and sustained economic growth should support the price of oilseed and oilseed products over the projection period, whereas continued productivity growth will put downward pressure on real prices.
Notwithstanding, in May 2020, FAO’s price indices for oilseeds and oilmeals fared, respectively, 3.8 percent and 3.6 percent higher than their year-earlier levels, while the vegetable oils index stood only 0.5 percent above its value in the corresponding period of
Breeding for sustainable oilseed crop yield and quality in a changing climate | Theoretical and Applied Genetics, Home, Springer
As the effects of climate change continue to alter crop-growing conditions year-to-year on both prime and marginal agricultural landscapes, we must consider the effects not only on yield but also on quality. This is particularly true for oilseed crops. In this review, we explore the importance of oilseeds in general and the specific uses of major oilseed crops including soybean, sunflower

4. Oilseeds and oilseed products | OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2021-2030, OECD iLibrary
Global market conditions of oilseeds and oilseed products resulted in rapid price increases in the second half of 2020, following short-term market disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Strong demand, especially for imported soybeans by the People’s Republic of China (hereafter “China”) and limited supply growth, especially of palm oil, lead to this price increase.
The oil extraction by mechanical pressing is the most common method for continuous treatment of oleaginous seeds without solvent. Different types of presses can be used depending on the purpose (expeller, expander, and twin-screw extruder) and on the capacity range (3 kg h−1 to 150 t day−1). At the laboratory scale, many authors have highlighted the effect of operating parameters (screw
FAO price indices for oilseeds, vegetable oils and oilmeals
As for the vegetable oil price index, the marginal increase reflected the net effect of higher sunflower and rapeseed oil quotations, more than offsetting slightly lower palm and soyoil prices. International palm oil prices trended lower in April, largely influenced by seasonally higher outputs in leading producing countries and lingering subdued global import demand.
