SAMIR Oil Refinery: Morocco’ Government ‘Hopeful’ to Reach
0. Apr. 21, 2023 6:03 p.m. Rabat, The government is closely following the development of the legal process relating to the SAMIR oil refinery station, and “hopes” that the file will reach a
Morocco currently imports 90% of its energy, and rising fossil fuel prices are increasing the calls to reopen the kingdom’s sole oil refinery. The Société Anonyme Marocaine de l’Industrie du Raffinage (SAMIR) opened in 1959 as a joint venture between the Moroccan state and Italian energy giant ENI.
Morocco’s Samir Refinery: Is There A Case For A Restart?, MEES
Morocco’s sole refinery, the 200,000 b/d Samir plant in Mohammedia has been stuck in financial and legal limbo since 2015 when it was mothballed due to its inability to pay billions in accrued debts to multiple creditors ( MEES, 14 August 2015 ). Former workers and union leaders say former owner Corral Holdings, controlled by Saudi
The oil refining sector is based on the treatment of crude oil through processes to obtain finished products, such as gasoline, 50 ppm diesel, fuels, lubricants, bitumens, and intermediate products (naphtha, distillate) meeting Moroccan standards. This sector contributed to less than 4% of the gross national output in 2013 (DHS 47,860 million).
Effect of Refining Process on the Quality
This study also revealed that. the refining process caused approximately 48.8% and 50% decrease of total ph enolic. contents in soybean and cottonseed oils, respectively. There was an increase in
oil. FFA can act as pro-oxidants in vegetable oils and result in an undesirable taste and flavor (Ghazani et al., 2013). Thus, one of the main objectives of oil refining is to remove FFA from crude oil. As shown in Table 1, the quantity of free fatty acids of crude cottonseed oil were significantly higher than those of the crude soybean oil.

After separating, we can get two products, one is crude oil with impurity of 1% which will be refined or filtered further by Filtered Press; the other is residue with oil which is conveyed back into Screw Press to repress to get rest oil. Cottonseed Oil & Cottonseed Meal. Cottonseed oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the cotton
The 6,000 b/d modular refinery was launched in September 2021 and is running at full capacity. Its production includes 50% gasoil, 28% naphtha and the rest is 0.5% fuel oil. The expansion is expected to be completed in 2023. Upon the completion, the refinery will be producing naphtha, ULSD, ULSFO and LPG.
A method to refine crude cottonseed oil using non-toxic
Crude cottonseed oil (300 ml) containing 2.8% FFAs as determined by titration analysis was blended with a 30% (by mass) NaOH solution at 1% (by volume) under stirring of 1000 r·min − 1 at 35 °C for 30 min. Polymers SL2700, SL3000, SL4500 and SL5000 were separately added to the coagulated solution with 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 mg·L − 1 oil.
The measurement of water content was made using a known volume of crude oil and a drying oven. 3. Results and Discussion It should be noted, that experimental studies performed even with periodic method of cottonseed oil refining, will clearly set the value of technological parameters for the neutralization of cottonseed oil [6, 12].
