In two-stage pressing, the first press is referred to as ‘pre-press’ and the second as ‘final-press’. Two-stage pressing technologies are used to maximize yield especially in oilseeds high in oil content (above 30 %, e.g. rapeseed, sunflower seed). Soybean pressing (oil content ca. 20 %) usually employs one-stage pressing.
The cleaned rapeseeds are fed in the kettle of the oil press machine to squeeze out oil from it. Rapeseed contains 40 – 45 % oil content. After a 2 stage pressing, about 6.5 – 7% oil is still present in the rapeseed cake which will be used as animal feed. The Cleaned rapeseed is conditioned using Steam in a Vertical Cooking Kettle.

Cleaning involved a 4.25 kW grain cleaner with 3 t/hr capacity, which removed any foreign particle present in the raw rapeseed. Upon completion, the cleaned seeds were fed by a hopping process into 6YL-130 screw press. This equipment had a rated power consumption of 18.5 kW and could press 9–12 t of rapeseed per day (Oil-Expeller, 2022).
