CRUDE SUNFLOWER OIL (CSFO) – Malter Group
It is an odorless, colorless oil, although commercial samples may be yellowish. In chemical terms, oleic acid is classified as a monounsaturated omega–9 fatty acid, abbreviated with a lipid number of 18:1 cis-9. It has the formula CH3(CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)7COOH.) and (iii) Mid Oleic. Sunflower oil is a food ingredient which is actively used in
An experimental oil refining unit has been developed and tested for sunflower oil. Crude pressed sunflower oil obtained from a local oil mill was refined using chemical method by degumming, neutralization, bleaching and dewaxing. The quality and composition of crude and refined oil were analysed compared. Reduction in phosphorous content from 6.15 ppm to 0, FFA content from 1.1 to 0.24 %
Effect of refining on quality and composition of sunflower oil
Crude pressed sunflower oil obtained from a local oil mill was refined using chemical method by degumming, neutralization, bleaching and dewaxing. The quality and composition of crude and refined oil were compared. The phosphorous content, FFA content, peroxide value and wax content decreased during the refining process.
In a study conducted by Cheng et al. [32], it was observed that flaxseed oil extracted by cold press provide 547 mg/100 g oil of total phytosterols, while a phytosterols content of 515.24 mg/100 g
Sunflower oil, Chemical refining, Physical refining
Crude extracted sunflower oil contains 0.8% phosphatidic acid and 33.7% phosphatidylethanolamine, while crude pressed oil contains 0.1% phosphatidic acid and 41.7% phosphatidylethanolamine. After water degumming, the phosphorus content in extracted sunflower oil remained at 84.1 mg/kg, which is 33.4%, and the remaining phospholipids
Mechanically pressed crude sunflower oil was obtained from a local oil mill. The crude oil was kept in tin container away from the light, high temperature and oxygen to avoid auto oxidation. The oil was refined in the developed experimental unit as per the process flow diagramme shown in Fig. 1. Degumming The crude oil in the open conical tank was
Sunflower Oil Refinery Plant Process, Oil Expeller
The steps involved in Sunflower Oil Refining Process: Degumming. Neutralization. Water Washing. Vacuum Drying. Bleaching. De-waxing. Deodorisation. The chemical refining stages of Sunflower oil are also similar to other soft oils except dewaxing which is additional as sunflower oil contains wax which will be removed by dewaxing process.
The quality and composition of crude and refined oil were analysed compared. Reduction in phosphorous content from 6.15 ppm to 0, FFA content from 1.1 to 0.24 % (oleic acid), peroxide value from 22.5 to 7.9 meq/kg, wax content from 1,420 to 200 ppm and colour absorbance value from 0.149 to 0.079 (in spectrophotometer at 460 nm) were observed
Cold pressed sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) oil
The unsaponifiable substances of cold pressed sunflower oil are tocopherols, phytosterols, alcohols, hydrocarbons, and phenols, which usually make up 0.5%–1.5% w/w of the oil. According to the Codex Alimentarius, the maximum amount of unsaponifiable matter in crude sunflower oil should be 15 g/kg (Codex, 1999).
Sunflower oil was the first oil consumed in Europe, and represented 17.6 g/capita/day or 35.6% of the total oil consumption in 2018 . Sunflower oil is the fourth most consumed oil in the world, representing 4.8% in 2017-18, after palm, soybean and rapeseed oils with 47.2, 37.6 and 11.3%, respectively [ 1 ].
