Destination Morocco: With Expanding U.S. Soybean Processing
Morocco is already one of the largest soybean meal customers for the U.S. Brent Babb, Regional Director of Europe and Middle East/North Africa at the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) says, “It’s always in the top 10 of our soybean importers from the U.S. It’s usually around 400,000 tons annually.”
DENVER (March 21, 2024)—Demand for soybean oil as a feedstock in the production of renewable diesel is rising as the U.S. aims to increase adoption of cleaner burning fuels. Renewable diesel has emerged as the preferred low carbon replacement for traditional diesel, and U.S. production is projected to increase sharply in the years ahead.
Soybean processing growth is crushing it
To produce extra soybean oil, crush capacity in the U.S. also must grow. In fact, some of the announced renewable diesel plants have been paired with crush plant announcements through a joint venture. Of the 23 crush plant announcements, 13 are for new plants and 10 are for expansion of current plants, at least two of which have been completed.
Abstract. A minimal residual oil content in the meal coming out of the hexane extractor is a clear benefit for a crushing plant; the more oil yield the better revenue for the crusher. In a modern and efficient extraction plant, a residual oil content ≤ 0.5% for soybean meal is expected.
Rapid expansion of U.S. soybean processing capacity risks
The expansion of U.S. soybean processing capacity will lead to growing supplies of soybean meal, which could also pressure processor margins. End users of soybean meal in the U.S., chiefly swine and poultry producers, hope to benefit from an abundance of supplies as production climbs. But for soybean processors, the question is whether domestic
Soybean oil, the other processing by-product, is a vegetable oil used in cooking, biodiesel production and making of biodegradable plastics and adhesives. Processed oil, commonly referred to as crude soybean oil, is sold to refiners, food processors with refineries, biodiesel refiners and industrial markets.
Sustainable zero-waste processing system for
Soybean meal is produced by different processing methods such as solvent extraction (soybean flakes 1.5% oil), and mechanical extraction by screw press (soymeal press cake >5% oil). Soymeal accounts for 62.5% of total oil meal and it also represents the 61% protein source to feed livestock (A. et al., 2011).
NOPA members produce meal and oil from oilseeds through a solvent extraction process, employing modern technologies to meet food safety and federal permitting requirements and ensure worker safety. Below is a standard flow chart that illustrates the various stages of a soybean as it journeys through a processing plant to become meal and oil. View […]

100.029.340. Soybean oil ( British English: soyabean oil) is a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the soybean ( Glycine max ). It is one of the most widely consumed cooking oils and the second most consumed vegetable oil. [2] As a drying oil, processed soybean oil is also used as a base for printing inks ( soy ink) and oil paints .
