Although Cameroon, the largest palm oil producer in Central Africa, produced more than 450,000 tons in 2020, it still imports about 60,000 tons a year to meet its domestic demand. Most of the imported palm oil comes from Indonesia, Malaysia and Gabon.
Oil Palm Development in Cameroon
Palm oil (Elæisguineensis) is a plant native to the countries bordering the Gulf of Guinea. Extracted from the pulp of the fruit, palm oil is rich in fatty saturated acids, and solid at room temperature. As all vegetable oils, palm oil does not contain cholesterol. Palm oil, with an annual global production of 50 million tons, equating to 39%

The resultant interesterified fat was processed through a margarine crystalliser under optimised conditions. The blends before and after CIE were investigated for triacylglycerol (TAG) composition, solid fat content (SFC) and melting characteristics, polymorphic form, fatty acid composition (FAC), bioactive (tocols, sterols, oryzanol) constituents and trans fatty acids (TFA).
In southern Cameroon, oil palm "smallholdings" contribute to rural development and meeting national oil and fat requirements for human consumption and soapmaking. From 1978 to 1991, 13,000 ha of selected oil palm smallholdings were set up with technical and financial support from a project. Selected oil palm smallholdings then trebled and now occupy around 40,000 ha. The latter plantations
Case Study on Reducing Food Loss in Palm Oil in Cameroon
It is estimated that in Southwest Cameroon, a top producing palm oil region of Africa, 67% of oil palm expansion from 2000-2015 occurred at the expense of forest. In Cameroon, food loss in palm oil is primarily driven by on-farm loss and processing loss i.e. harvest of unripe fresh fruit bunches (equivalent of 1% CPO loss) and extraction related loss (9-15% CPO loss), respectively.
Rice bran oil (RBO) is popular in several countries such as Japan, India, Korea, China and Indonesia as a cooking oil. It has been shown that RBO is an excellent cooking and salad oil due to its high smoke point and delicate flavor. The nutritional qualities and health effects of rice bran oil are also established. RBO is rich in unsaponifiable fraction (unsap), which contains the
