Oil palm in the 2020s and beyond: challenges and solutions | CABI Agriculture and Bioscience | Full Text, BioMed Central
Background Oil palm, Elaeis guineensis, is by far the most important global oil crop, supplying about 40% of all traded vegetable oil. Palm oils are key dietary components consumed daily by over three billion people, mostly in Asia, and also have a wide range of important non-food uses including in cleansing and sanitizing products. Main body Oil palm is a perennial crop with a > 25-year life
Oil palm is an oil-producing crop of major importance at the global scale. Oil palm mesocarp lipids are used for myriads industrial applications, and market demand has been growing for decades. In addition, oil palm seeds are oleaginous, and the oil extracted therefrom can be used for several purposes, from food to cosmetics. As such, there is a huge need in oil palm seeds to maintain the

The Guinean government has promoted the large-scale production of industrial crops such as oil palm and rubber through the Guinean Oil Palm and Rubber Company (SOGUIPAH). Smallholder-based production of these crops has also been promoted to boost rural development but the food security outcomes are unclear. This exploratory study assesses the food security outcomes of smallholder-based oil
Palm oil production has increased rapidly since the 1960s. Between 1970 and 2020, the world’s production of palm oil increased by about 40 times. Global production went from only 2 million tonnes to around 80 million tonnes. The change in global production is shown in the chart. 3.
Life Cycle Assessment for the Production of Oil Palm Seeds
According to the inventory data, the amount of electricity and diesel needed to produce 1000 germinated oil palm seeds varied from 3.81E-02 kWh to 1.84 kWh and 2.04E-02 L to 2.91E-01 L, respectively. Variations in diesel and electricity consumption depended on the amount of energy used for the machinery at the seed production unit.

Production, Performance and Advances in Oil Palm Tissue Culture, Malaysian Palm Oil Board
In Malaysia, there are 12 tissue culture laboratories, including MPOB, producing clonal oil palm ramets. In 2009, oil palm clone producers in Malaysia produced 2.53 million ramets. However, this production of ramets is far below the amount needed by the industry. Clonal production for sale is limited, even to smallholders.

Breeding and Genetics of the Oil Palm
With the ability to clonally propagate oil palm via tissue culture, it is tempting to adopt this approach. To do so would require repeated cycles of cloning (from clones), the feasibility of which is still uncertain. Hence, clonal propagation remains as an adjunct to breeding for hybrid seed production in oil palm.
In this work, the use of tantalum phosphate (TaPa) as a hydroprocessing catalyst for the drop-in biofuel production from date palm seed oil under mild experimental conditions was investigated. Mesoporous TaPa was intrinsically synthesized and comprehensively characterized using several analytical techniques.
