Tiger nut ( Cyperus esculentus L.) oil: A review of bioactive compounds, extraction technologies, potential hazards and applications
Tiger nut oil has a high oleic acid content of 64.4–75.60% and low linoleic acid content of 8.28–13.40%, and it is also rich in tocopherols and polyphenols, which give it a good oxidative stability. For tiger nut oil, the IP had a strong correlation with the total content
Cedar oil, also known as cedarwood oil, is an essential oil derived from various types of conifers, most in the pine or cypress botanical families. It is produced from the foliage, and sometimes the wood, roots, and stumps left after logging of trees for timber. It has many uses in art, industry, and perfumery, and while the characteristics of
Bioactive Phytochemicals from Tiger Nut Oil Processing Byproducts
Besides major compounds, tiger nut oil contains minor bioactive compounds that are considered functional components. In Table 4, tocopherol and sterol compositions of tiger nut oil from different areas are presented.Yeboah et al. [] demonstrated that the total tocopherol content was 120 μg g −1, comprised up α-tocopherol (86.7 μg g −1) and β-tocopherol (33.3 μg g −1) in tiger nut oil.
Tiger nut tuber of the Cyperus esculentus L. plant is an unusual storage system. Recent investigations clearly show that tiger nut is a valuable source of vegetable oils, rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, tocopherols, and phytosterols as well as high-added value compounds (proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and bioactive compounds).
TIGER NUT (CYPERUS ESCULENTUS); MORPHOLOGY, PRODUCTS, USES AND HEALTH BENEFITS
The carbohydrate content of tiger nut tubers was found to be the first component in these tubers (45.73%) followed by oil content (30.01%). moreover; protein, ash and crude fiber of tiger nut
2.1 Origin. Tiger nut, scientifically known as Cyperus esculentus, is a plant species that belong to the family Cyperaceae. It is an annual or perennial plant growing to 90 cm tall with solitary stems growing from a tuber. The plant is reproduced by seeds, creeping rhizomes, and tubers.
Tree nut oils: Properties and processing for use in food
One last cleaning step is air blowing, which separates the lighter particles from the heavier nuts. After cleaning, tree nuts are then dried using circulated air or can be roasted at around 195 °C (280 °F) for 10–20 min to bring a roasted flavor to the final oil products ( Woodroof, 1994 ). 3.2.2.
