Tanzania Palm Oil Industry: Auditing
In Tanzania annual generation of fresh oil palm post harvest wastes has been estimated at 10 5 tons while palm oil processing wastes has been estimated at 1.3 x 10 5 tons and 1.5 x 10 5 m 3 of

Physicochemical Properties of Palm Kernel Oil | Current
These values were compared with those obtained for groundnut and coconut oils. It was found that the physico-chemical properties of palm kernel oil are comparable to those of groundnut and coconut oils except for the peroxide value (i.e., 14.3±0.8 mEq) which was not detectable in groundnut and coconut oils.
Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO 2) has been used in the extraction of oil from dehulled and undehulled ground palm kernels ( Hassan et al., 2000, Rahman et al., 2001 ). Bharath et al., 1992, Bharath et al., 1993 fractionated triglycerides of fatty oil components of palm kernel based on their carbon number using SC-CO 2 at 313.2–353.2 K
Modelling the palm kernel oil extraction process in a hot
The physical process was modelled to create understanding and better assess the performance of a palm kernel oil extraction system. Mathematical models were developed to describe the extraction of palm kernel oil in hot-water from the comminuted particles. The models developed included parameters such as particle size, moisture content and charge ratio, all as a function of time. Experimental
The total FFB and crude palm oil (CPO) production for January and December 2010 was 74.5 million tonnes and 15.4 million tonnes, respectively. A total of 3.9 million tonnes of palm kernel oil (PKO) was produced during the same corresponding period. In the case of Indonesia, the industry has grown rapidly with the oil palm plantation expanding
Extraction, Compositional Studies and Physico-Chemical
Results of the physico-chemical properties of palm kernel oil is presented in Table 2, with refractive index (1.453), iodine value (41.24 g/100 g), free fatty acid value (5.85mgKOH/g), Acid value (11.60mgKOH/g), saponification value (232.815mgKOH/g) and peroxide value (1.70meq/kg). Low iodine value indicated low level of unsaturation in the oil
The oil component was extracted from the dehulled ground palm kernel with compressed CO 2 in the operating range 27.6–48.3 MPa at 80 °C at varying flow rate of CO 2 and extraction time. Fig. 1 shows the effect of SC-CO 2 volume at different pressure and constant temperature of 80 °C on cumulative yield of oil against cumulative time.
