Oil production began in 1966, at 118,000 barrels/day in 1980, and reached 63,000 barrels/day in 2015. The country is a net importer from the year 2000 onwards. The country's main deposit is also the first to be discovered: El Borma , in 1964, on the Tunisian-Algerian border.
