In this work, an optimal steam flow trajectory for essential oils extraction from aromatic plants is derived, minimizing energy consumption. A phenomenological dynamic model of the oil extraction process is adopted from literature and a multi-objective optimal control problem is formulated, in order to minimize energy consumption and at the same time maximize the yield of extraction.
Some Important Aromatic and Medicinal Plants of Morocco
100 parts of peeled berries contain 0.8% of a volatile oil obtained by steam distillation of berries, 0.5 % of a particular crystalline substance, called laurine, 6.4% of a green fatty oil, 3.5% of crystalline fat having more consistency, 0.8% a soft resin, half fluid (containing volatile oil), 12.5% of starch, 8.6% of gum, 3.2% of plant
Lavender oil has a calming and soothing aroma and is commonly used for relaxation, sleep support, and skincare. The country’s rich flora includes plants like roses, lavender, thyme, citrus
BIOTECHNOLOGICAL VALORIZATION OF AROMATIC PLANTS IN MOROCCO
The objective was to investigate the yield and the chemical composition of O. compactum essential oil isolated from plants collected in the North West of Morocco (Rif). Thirty six plant samples of
Generally, SD technique is used for extracting oil from aromatic and medicinal plants. This technique extracted 93% of essential oils, and other methods were used to extract the remaining 7% (Radwan et al., 2020). First step in steam distillation is cutting of fully grown aromatic plants.
Review on essential oil extraction from aromatic
The methods used to extract essential oil from these plants are; steam distillation (SD), solvent-assisted extraction, hydro distillation (HD), ultrasonic-assisted extraction, supercritical fluid extraction and solvent-free microwave extraction (Belhachat et al., 2018). Oil extraction techniques are classified as shown in Fig. 1.

Exploring The Aromatic Heritage: Essential Oils In Morocco
Eucalyptus globulus oil is another prominent essential oil produced in Morocco, known for its respiratory benefits. Traditional Hammams: Hammams, traditional Moroccan bathhouses, often incorporate the use of essential oils in their treatments. These oils are used during massages and steam sessions to invigorate the senses and promote relaxation.
Moroccan essential oil production is rooted in centuries-old traditions. The extraction methods used, such as steam distillation and cold pressing, have been handed down through generations. This means Moroccan essential oils often retain a higher purity level and have a quality and authenticity that mass-produced oils may lack. 3.
