Black Seed ( Nigella sativa ) Oil, Springer
Abstract. Black cumin ( Nigella Sativa) seed is native to Asia and is often known as black seed oil. Studies on the black cumin seed oil have shown combating superbugs like Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or Helicobacter pylori. Nigella Sativa seeds are carminative, helping aid in digestion, gas, bloating, and stomach pain.
Known scientifically as nigella sativa and referred to in Morocco as sanouj, black cumin was taken originally to Morocco from India. It is now grown in Morocco and the small black seeds are widely available in the country’s many souks and markets. The seeds are stored whole and crushed before mixing with honey and hot water and then drank.
Natural therapeutic approach of Nigella sativa (Black seed
N. sativa seeds are used widely for extraction of fixed oil. N. sativa seeds were used by Dioscorides as diuretic, emmenagogue, galactopoietic. Avicenna in the “Canon of Medicine” used the black seed for stimulating the body's energy and helping recovery from fatigue and dispiritedness. It was a remedy for coryza.
It is evidenced that the Nigella seed oil exhibited virtual effects against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, E. coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and both crude alkaloid extract as well as aqueous extract on N. sativa seeds are effective against various microorganism isolated from human subjects suffering from septic arthritis.
A Narrative Review on Various Oil Extraction Methods
The current review investigates the effects of black seed (Nigella sativa) on human health, which is also used to encapsulate and oxidative stable in different food products. In recent decades, many extraction methods, such as cold pressing, supercritical fluid extraction, Soxhlet extraction, hydro distillation (HD) method, microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), ultrasound-assisted extraction
The quantity of most important bioactive constituent, thymoquinone, present in the volatile oil isolated by different extraction methods from the seeds of N. sativa varied over a wide range: using SC-CO 2 (1.06, 4.07 mg/g) and by Soxhlet extraction (2940.43 mg/kg) and (8.8 mg/g) oil .
