Breaking Down the Basics of Copra Oil Processing
Processing copra oil. Traditionally, processors feed flaked copra into stacked cooking and drying vessels, which reduce the moisture levels down to about 3 or 4% by weight. Then, dried flakes are crushed in a screw press expeller to separate the copra oil from the solid meal. Containing up to 70% oil by weight, coconuts have the highest oil
Copra. Copra (from Tamil : கொப்பரை, Kopparai; Malayalam : കൊപ്ര, Koppara/Kopra; Kannada : ಕೊಬ್ಬರಿ, Kobbari; Telugu : కొబ్బరి, Kobbari) is the dried, white flesh of the coconut from which coconut oil is extracted. [1] Traditionally, the coconuts are sun-dried, especially for export, before the

The cut-up and dried endosperm of the coconut, the copra, is pressed to produce the oil. Fresh copra is dried, pressed, and the oil is subsequently refined. It can only be used as an edible oil after it has been refined and deodorised (Hänsel et al. 1999 , p. 248; Roth and Kormann 2000 , p. 130; Salunkhe et al. 1992, p. 305 et seq).
The moisture content in the kernel should not be more than 7%, based on M.E.O.M.A. Standard. After 1st pressing. 12% to 14% oil content remain in cake. After 2nd pressing. Less than 7% oil content remain in cake. Worm & Collar / Worm Screw. Hardfacing on worm & collar (worm screw) Thickness of hardfaced layer : 6~8mm. Longer life span.
Copra or Coconut Oil: Production, Specification and Applications
Processing dry copra through expellers generally offers about 60% yield (as high as 70%) of coconut oil based of dry weight. About 30 to 40% is oil cake. Typically, one thousand mature coconuts weigh about 1440 kg and yield about 170 kg of copra from which around 70 lit of coconut oil can be extracted.
Copra is essentially dried coconut meat. Copra is used to make refined coconut oil, cold pressed coconut oil and even most raw coconut oils. Now at first, dried coconut meat may not sound all that bad. That is until you learn how it’s made. The coconut meat is usually dried in ovens at temperatures over 80˚c or left out in the fields to dry

Copra Meal, or Coconut Meal, is an important feed ingredient and the by-product of the oil extraction from dried coconut kernels (Copra). Copra has high protein content and also contains very high fiber, making it a commonly used product in horse, poultry, fish, and pig feed. Numerous studies show that it increases energy, food consumption,
Various methods are used in drying copra. Because of costs, fuel oil and electricity are avoided by copra producers. Sun-drying remains as a cheap practical way of drying. Direct drying kilns rely on direct contact of combustion gases with coconut meat and produce a generally inferior grade of copra. Indirect drying kilns produce excellent copra.
