Production of biodiesel from sunflower oil using highly
The transesterification reaction of the triglycerides to fatty acid methyl esters (sunflower oil to biodiesel) was performed in a 500 ml conical flask with a reflux condenser and a magnetic stirrer. Initially sunflower oil was heated at 65 °C for 15–20 min following which a mixture of nanocatalyst and methanol was added to the heated oil.
There is more than one way to implement the washing process. For batch processes, two of the methods are: a) top spray and b) air bubbling (see Figure 9.13). For the top spray, a fine mist of water is sprayed top-down in a fine mist. The water droplets contact the biodiesel as the water flows down, separating out the impurities.
Biomethane and biodiesel production from sunflower crop: A
The viscosity of the sunflower oil was 33.4 ± 0.3 mm 2 /s, and the transesterification process reduced this property remarkably, as shown in Table 7. The biodiesel production process was performed without acidic transesterification since the FFA content of sunflower oil was acceptable for a direct alkaline transesterification reaction.
The transesterification of sunflower oil catalyzed by CaO with cosolvent as crude biodiesel at moderate reaction conditions and atmospheric pressure was studied. The addition of biodiesel in its crude form poses certain desirable prospects such as faster separation of phases once the reaction ends . Another point to note in presence of crude

Conventionally acid (HCl or H 2 SO 4) or alkali (NaOH or KOH) is used for transesterification of triglycerides. Alkali catalyzed methods have been commercialized and many countries are producing biodiesel using this method. The schematic representation of chemical catalyzed biodiesel production is depicted in Fig. 7.2.
The limestone was then powdered using a grinder machine and passed across a 63 µm sieve mesh. ... Future research should focus on making biodiesel production more cost-effective on a large-scale
Preparation of Biodiesel from Sunflower Oil by
In the literature, biodiesel reaction times between 30 min to 9 h have been studied. Thirumarimurugan et al. [27] studied the transesterification reaction of waste sunflower oil with NaOH catalyst
Regarding edible oils, in a number of nations sunflower/rapeseed/palm oil/soybean edible oils have been used as feedstocks for production of biodiesel, i.e., cocunut oil (Cocos nucifera) from plant coconut; soybean oil (Cycline max) from plant soybean; palm oil (Elaeis guineensis) from plant Mesocarp of palm oil; sunflower oil (Helianthus annuus) obtained from plant sunflower; rapeseed oil
Characterization of Sunflower Oil Biodiesel as
In this present study biodiesel was produced from sunflower oil by base-catalyzed transesterification process. A 30 L per batch experimental installation was used to produce biodiesel using a
The parameter study exhibits encouraging results in terms of biodiesel/ ester conversion of the second used sunflower oil. Optimum parameters like temperature (62.3 °C), the molar ratio of methanol/ oil (1:5), and potassium hydroxide (2.85 wt%) were estimated for maximum biodiesel conversion (97.06 %).
