Walnut oil was prescribed for colic and to soothe the intestines. The juice of green walnut husks, diluted in warm water, was recommended as a mouthwash and to stop diarrhoea. A green walnut, boiled in sugar, was said to relieve constipation. Powdered walnut bark was prescribed to treat ringworm (Reference Rossengarden 10).
Walnut (Juglans regia L.) is a plant of the Juglandaceae family native to Central Asia, the western Himalayan chain and Kyrgyzstan (Fernández-López et al. 2000; Salas-Salvadó et al. 2011) that was introduced in Europe before Roman times (1000 B.C.), from where spreads to other regions with a Mediterranean type ecosystem throughout the world such as USA and North of Africa.
