Morocco: Soybean Oil Accounts for 90% of the Total, AgFlow
With an average annual growth rate of 3% per year, the total imports in Vegetable Oils have increased from 405,000 tons in 2007 to 616,000 tons in 2020, an increase of 52%. According to AgFlow data, Morocco imported 27,000 tons of Soybean Oil from Argentina in Jan-May 2023, followed by Spain (6,000 tons). In 2016-2020, the leading suppliers of
Kania et al. (2004) reported that solvent extraction of soybean oil yielded higher total tocopherols content (1448 mg/kg) than cold pressing (1358 mg/kg), and the refining process led to the loss of α-tocopherol by 37%, β-tocopherol by 56%, γ-tocopherol by 17%, and δ-tocopherol by 34% in solvent-extracted soybean oil.
Exploring the U.S. Soy Oil Advantage in Morocco, U.S
The U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) presented the U.S. Soy oil advantage to refiners and processors in Morocco, focusing on the impact of origin. USSEC hosted two refining workshops virtually Nov. 17 and 19, 2020. These one-on-one meetings accommodated a key soy oil refiner and a key crusher and vegetable oil processor in the region.
Pressing extraction of edible oil can be divided into hot-pressed and cold-pressed (Pereira et al., 2014). Cold-pressed is a method of producing oil by low-temperature pressing through an oil mill. The oil plants are not heated, nor are they are stir-fried at low temperature before pressing.
THE CONTENT AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS IN
The total phenolic acid content of flaxseed meal on a dry-weight basis, as reported by Wanasundara and Shahidi (1994), ranged from about 130 to 220 mg/100 g, as ferulic acid equivalents. Choo et al. (2007) showed a total phenolic acid content of 76.8–307.3 mg/100 g in cold-pressed flaxseed oils.
Cold pressed soybean oil consists of different lipid and lipid derivatives groups such as neutral lipids, polar lipids, phytosterols, phenolic compounds, tocopherols (mainly γ- and δ-tocopherol), and hydrocarbons (squalene). γ- and δ-tocopherols are well-known antioxidants. Relatively high levels of essential fatty acids (linoleic
COUNTRY SNAPSHOT: MOROCCO, U.S. Soybean Export Council
MOROCCO Morocco is the 4th largest economy in Africa with a growing population. All U.S. imports to Morocco are duty free due to the United States-Morocco Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Morocco is the largest importer of soybean meal in the Middle East and North Africa and one of the top 15 importers of U.S. Soybean meal. It has the
Cold-pressed oils contain more polar phenols, the concentration of which varies from 18- to 99-ppm caffeic acid equivalents (CAEs) (Koski et al. 2003). Olive oil is believed to be most stable because of its high quantity of phenols (Maniak and Targoński 1996). Taking into consideration the fact that plant oils are mostly used in preparing food
