Production in 2022. In 2022, production increased to 77.3 thousand cubic metres (10 3 m 3 /d), 486.4 thousand barrels per day (10 3 bbl/d), in response to higher oil prices. This is an 11 per cent increase from 69.6 10 3 m 3 /d (437.7 10 3 bbl/d) in 2021. The rise in the number of new wells supported the increase in production.

Oil Sands Extraction in Alberta, Canada: a Review of Impacts and Processes Concerning Indigenous Peoples, Human Ecology
We review literature about Canada’s oil sands, pertaining to Indigenous Peoples. We draw on a range of recent published and unpublished sources. We find that social science research on oil sands extraction has been inadequate, even as the region has undergone transformation. Available research suggests that Indigenous communities feel resigned to further loss of their subsistence landbase
