The price of rice bran oil depends on the amounts of contained bioactive compounds especially oryzanol and phytosterols. The oryzanol content of rice bran oil under ohmic heating optimized at 70 V/cm, 90 °C for 3 min (27,580.75 ± 916.58 mg/kg) was higher than the control (24,908.57 ± 19.87 mg/kg). Ethanol-to-water ratio (p ≤ 0.000), medium-to-rice bran ratio (p ≤ 0.002), and electric
Influence of Extraction and Pretreatment Conditions on the Yield, Solubility, and Quality of Rice Bran Oil Extracted with CO, Springer
Efficient, low-cost methods are required to produce impurity-free bio-oils with minimal nutrient depletion. This study investigated the effect of extraction and pretreatment conditions on the quality of rice bran oil extracted with CO2-expanded hexane. The extraction conditions considered were temperature (20–30 °C), CO2 mole fraction (0.76–0.94), and pressure (4.2–7.0 MPa). The
In this technology, the cell tissue of rice bran is hydrolyzed with protease and then oil is released to achieve the purpose of oil extraction (Hanmoungjai et al. 2001 ). In a previous study, Chen ( 2014) used alkaline protease to extract oil from rice bran and determined the optimal process parameters.
Bioactives from Crude Rice Bran Oils Extracted Using Green Technology, PMC, National Center for Biotechnology Information
Among the three green extraction methods, SUBLDME gave the oils from both white and red bran the highest total phytosterol (1682.21 and 1784.17 mg/100 g), followed by SF-CO 2 (1347.33 and 1644.40 mg/100 g, respectively). The maximum phytosterol found in the CRBO extracted using SF-CO 2 was 1535–1912 mg/100 g [ 100 ].
2.2. Oil Extraction and Solvent Screening First, 5 g of rice bran was put into a conical flask and then extracted using different solvents with a certain solid–liquid ratio at different temperatures in a water bath oscillator (THZ-83A, Jiangxing, Shanghai, China). After
Rice bran oil, Wikipedia
Rice bran oil is the oil extracted from the hard outer brown layer of rice called bran.It is known for its high smoke point of 232 C (450 F) and mild flavor, making it suitable for high-temperature cooking methods such as stir frying and deep frying. It is popular as a cooking oil in East Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Japan
Rice bran oil (RBO) is a valuable ingredient extracted from rice bran (RB), a side stream of polishing rice grain in the milling process. RBO is rich in bioactive ingredients with potential health benefits, such as gamma-oryzanol (GO) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
Rice bran stabilization and rice bran oil extraction using ohmic heating
Conclusions. Ohmic heating was used to stabilize rice bran oil, and to enhance the extraction yields of rice bran oil from rice bran. Ohmic heating and microwave heating are effective methods for stabilizing rice bran with the addition of moisture, which enables heating over 100 °C to occur.
Edible oil extraction with petroleum derivatives as solvents has caused safety, health, and environmental concerns everywhere. Thus, finding a safe alternative solvent will have a strong and positive impact on environments and general health of the world population, considering the scale of oil extraction operations worldwide.
