Rice bran oil (RBO) is popular in several countries such as Japan, India, Korea, China and Indonesia as a cooking oil. It has been shown that RBO is an excellent cooking and salad oil due to its high smoke point and delicate flavor. The nutritional qualities and health effects of rice bran oil are also established. RBO is rich in unsaponifiable fraction (unsap), which contains the
Effects of ultrasonication and thermal cooking pretreatments on the extractability and quality of cold press extracted rice bran oil, Phan, 2019
This research investigates the effects of different extraction processes on the extractability and quality of rice bran oil. The extraction processes included hexane extraction (HE) as Control 1, cold press extraction (CE) as Control 2, ultrasonic pre-treatment combined with cold press extraction (UCE), and thermal cooking combined with cold press extraction (CCE).
Abstract. Rice bran oil (RBO) is a very good source of several micronutrients and natural antioxidants such as γ-oryzanol, sterols, tocopherols, tocotrienols, phospholipids, phytosterols, and squalene. These micronutrients are the bioactive components in RBO, concentrated mainly in the unsaponifiable fraction of the oil.
Quantitative analysis of γ–oryzanol content in cold pressed rice bran oil by TLC–image analysis method
UV spectra of standard γ-oryzanol overlayed with γ-oryzanol in cold pressed rice bran oil sample (maximum absorption at 365 nm). The calibration curves of TLC-densitometric and TLC-image analysis methods were found to be a straight line, and the polynomial regression data showed good linear relationship over the concentration range of 200 to 600 ng/spot from both methods.
A pilot-scale real-time flowing microwave drum (PRFM) heating system was designed and adopted to stabilise rice bran (RB) for retarding rancidity. Meanwhile, the influence of PRFM radiation on fat-soluble bioactive compounds of RB were evaluated. Results revealed that PRFM processing could effectively inactivate lipase (LA) and lipoxygenase (LOX) of RB in minutes. The RB sample irradiated at 4
Stabilization: The Key to Quality Rice Bran Oil
Stabilization: The Key to Quality Rice Bran Oil. February 16, 2023 Oilseed Processing, Solvent Extraction Processing. When the outer layer of brown rice, or bran, is removed to make white rice, it sets off a ticking time bomb for processors. The milling process activates an enzyme in the bran that quickly breaks down lipids—destroying the
The maximum oil extractability obtained by PLE and UAE (12.23 W/cm2 and 15 min) were 16.77 mg/g rice bran and 16.59 mg/g rice bran, respectively, and higher than the SE process (14.96 mg/g rice bran).
Quality Comparison of Rice Bran Oil Extracted with d‐Limonene and Hexane, Liu, 2005, Wiley Online Library
The yield and quality of crude rice bran oil from the limonene-based solvent extraction were almost equivalent to those from the hexane-based operation. The optimum solvent-to-rice bran ratio and extraction time required for d-limonene extraction of oil, based primarily on crude rice bran oil yield, have been determined to be 5:1 and 0.5 hr, respectively.
It is a rice source of rice-bran oil (RBO) with good fatty acid profile and phytonutrients like oryzanols, tocopherols, tocotrienols, phytosterols, and importantly dietary fibers. These bioactive compounds possess cardioprotective, anti-oxidative, anti, inflammatory, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and antitumor properties.
