The Potential of Coconut Shells Through Pyrolysis Technology in Nigeria
The energy content available in the coconut shell is approximately 20.8 MJ/kg [ 21 ]. This is higher than all the biomass presented including the coconut husk. The moisture content of 7.82% [ 54] is within the permissible standard value [ 26 ]. It has a fixed carbon content of 21.6% [ 55 ].
Coconut husk forms the majority of waste (~35-40%), and consists of the 5 -10 cm of thick stringy bre layer covering the fruit. It varies in colour depending on the ripeness of the fruit. The husk is surrounded by coir “dust” (~3-4%). The husks and dust make up about 40% of the fruit’s mass.

Property of Main Palm Biomass Wastes. 1. EFB fuel. Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) refers to the bunch without fruit, which is discarded from rude palm oil mill. And it can be processed into EFB pellets (briquettes or charcoals), the diameter of which should be from 6mm to 10mm and the length should be less than 30mm. EFB.
