Production of vegetable oils in the world and in Egypt: an overview
This article throws a light on the recent situation of oilseed as well as vegetable oil production in the world referring to those in Egypt. Over the last 30 years, the oil crop production in the world increased 240%, while the increase in area and in yield was 82 and 48%, respectively. The main oilseed produced in the world is the soybean whereby it represents more than 50% of total oil crop
Palm oil is the world’s most-produced vegetable oil that is serving as an important source of food and energy for many developing and underdeveloped countries. The global demand for palm oil will continue to rise, owing to the growing population and economy. Presently, tremendous efforts have been devoted to improving the sustainability of palm oil production. One strategy is to improve the
Edible Oil Production in Egypt: An Overview
4.1. Extraction of crude oil from oilseed The extraction of crude oil may be carried mechanically using screw press or hydraulic press or by direct solvent extraction using commercial hexane or using both technologies in what is called pre-press solvent extraction. Residual oil in extracted meal is lowest in case of direct solvent extraction
To achieve that, the effects of extraction temperature (60, 80, 100 and 120 °C) and extraction screw speed (60, 90 and 120 rpm) on oil extraction yield and quality, extraction energy requirements

Extraction of an edible oil from wheat germ, an important byproduct of wheat milling industry in Egypt, using commercial hexane was studied. The extraction was carried out in a single and in two successive stages using different solvent-to-solid ratios from 2 to 6 m3/ ton. The results showed that a good oil recovery (about 75%) can be achieved
Prickly Pear Seed Oil Extraction, Chemical Characterization
The entire fruit of prickly pear contains 9–10% of seeds [ 1, 2 ]. The prickly pear seeds showed to contain polysaccharides, cellulose and hemicelluloses [ 3 ]. Many studies have suggested prickly pear seeds as a new source of fruit oils [ 4, 5 ]. The extracted oil presented 5–15.5% of total seed composition [ 1, 2, 6, 7 ].
Coconut oil Three oil extraction techniques were used namely; solvent extraction (SE), wet mill cold extraction (WMCE) and wet mill hot extraction (WMHE) SE had the highest oil recovery (79.52%).
Advances and Perspectives in Biohydrogen Production from Palm Oil Mill
Despite its important socioeconomic impact on the main exporting countries, palm oil production and its growing demand are configured as a scenario of great environmental concern , as it leads to deforestation, the loss of biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, water and air pollution, and the generation of large amounts of palm oil mill effluent (POME) during the extraction process [8,9].
2.3.3 Structure and Recovery. The characterization of the component of olive mill wastewater that is generated during the olive oil extraction can be applied to obtain target molecules with bioactive properties that are critical for developing viable valorization solutions for these residues and moving towards a more sustainable system based on a circular economy concept.
