(pre-treatment) of oil crude The process of dewatering of crude oil enters the oil production process. At the initial production period of a fresh field, wells often produce either anhydrous or low-water oil. However, over time, the water content of the oil produced increases at different rates and sometimes reaches 80–90% in old fields [1, 14].
1.1. The modular refinery era. The concept “modular refinery” is not new, as it has earlier been used in the early forties, later re-surfacing in the seventies where a one skid portable crude topping unit for the production of straight-run gasoline, diesel oil, and heavy fuel was developed (Hogan, Citation 1976).
2.2: The process of crude oil refining, Engineering LibreTexts
The first process is known as distillation. In this process, crude oil is heated and fed into a distillation column. A schematic of the distillation column is shown in Figure 2.2 F i g u r e 2.2. As the temperature of the crude oil in the distillation column rises, the crude oil separates itself into different components, called “fractions.”.
Distillation is the main separation process in crude oil refining. Depending on the size and complexity of the refinery, typically there could be 30 or more large distillation columns ranging from 2 to 14 m diameter. Figure 4.1 shows that the refinery landscape is dominated by many distillation columns. Download : Download full-size image
Process design evaluation of an optimum modular topping
1.1.1. Modular topping refinery The topping unit separates the crude oil into fractions or distillates based on their difference in boiling points. It is used for the production of diesel and/or kerosene while naphtha, fuel gas and the residue serve as its by-products. The crude oil as shown in Figure 1 is pre-heated through series
Since that time, topping plant refineries have evolved from crude 1 st Generation open flame distillation of crude oil to 2 nd Generation, Modular Refineries using fired process heaters and smaller footprints, and finally to the 3 rd Generation – Turbo Refinery that utilize a gas turbine generator at its core and recovers waste heat
Effect of Crude Assay on Distillate Cuts Yield in Batch
modular mini refining plants using batch distillation units have been proposed. This has made it necessary to carry out systematic studies in-mini batch processing of crude oil. This paper investigates the effect of crude oil assay on distillate cuts yield in a mini-batch distillation plant using a process simulator. The simulation was
Abstract. Main process units and their functions in oil refineries and petrochemical plants are described. Among them are atmospheric and vacuum crude distillation, fluid catalytic cracking and hydrocracking, hydroprocessing (including hydrodesulfurization), and catalytic reforming (continuous catalytic regeneration and isomerization) units.

Overview. Crude distillation is the first step in processing crude oil into its different end products, including gasoline, kerosene, diesel, jet fuel, asphalt, and more. Crude stills are the oldest means for processing oil. The purpose of crude distillation is to recover the light materials from the oil. This process begins with a fractional
A typical atmospheric crude distillation unit. Full size image. Crude oil is pumped from storage to be heated by exchange against hot overhead and product side streams in the Crude Unit. At a preheat temperature of about 200–250 °F, water is injected into the crude to dissolve salt that is usually present.
