Currently, Argan oil is mainly produced by women’s cooperatives in Morocco using a semi-industrial mechanical extraction process. This allows the production of high-quality argan oil. Depending on the method used to prepare argan kernels, two types of argan oil can be obtained: food or cosmetic grade.
What is argan oil?
Argan oil is a non-refined vegetable oil, of the more well‐known “virgin oil” type, is produced from the argan tree [Argania spinosa (L.) Skeels], a species endemic to Southwestern Morocco. The argan tree is deemed to be an important forest species from both social and economic standpoints.
How long does argan oil last?
For instance, at 110°C, food argan oil prepared by press cold extraction present an average Rancimat induction period of 31 h, whereas it is only 13 h for cosmetic argan oil. At high storage temperature (60°C) for 35 days, argan oil from roasted kernels prepared by press cold extraction shows high oxidative stability ( 19 ).
How do I use argan oil?
It is certified organic by the USDA and is sustainably sourced and harvested. To use, simply apply a few drops of argan oil to your fingertips and massage gently into your face and neck. Use in the morning and at night after cleansing and toning for best results.
