- Why do we grow avocados in Kenya?
- To strengthen income and security for the farmers, we use the varieties "Hass" and "Fuerte" for our avocado oil. These provide particularly high oil yields, ripen quickly and produce more harvests on a smaller cultivation area. In addition, we have avocado seedlings grown in LIMBUA’s own Kenyan nurseries alongside organic macadamia seedlings.

- And this is exactly what the new avocado oil factory aims to achieve as well. The avocado factory is located a few kilometers from the village of Ena (Embu County, Kenya) and is situated in the middle of the mixed farms of our smallholder farmers.
- What is the difference between an expeller press and a hydraulic cold press?
- In contrast to an expeller press, these components are typically pressed at a slightly lower temperature (50°C). No heat or chemicals are used during extraction. The hydraulic cold press is the oil press machine we employ for avocado, peanut and sunflower oil extraction in Kenya.
- How many types of avocados are there in Kenya?
- In Kenya, there are more than 40 varieties of avocados. According to Wasilwa et al. (2018), Hass avocado is the main export variety and Fuerte is preferred for processing. Other varieties of avocado include Keitt, Reed, Booth 8, Simmonds, Pinkerton, Nabal, Puebla, Tonnage, Ettinger, Hayes, G6 and G7.
