  • Tung oil or China wood oil is a drying oil obtained by pressing the seed from the nut of the tung tree ( Vernicia fordii ). Tung oil hardens upon exposure to air (through polymerization ), and the resulting coating is transparent and has a deep, almost wet look.

  • Strip the Existing Finish With Trisodium Phosphate (TSP). Removing varnish and lacquer finishes is advisable before applying tung oil. Mix one water gallon with two TSP tablespoons. Then, use a sponge or brush to spread the mixture on the surface. Let the surface dry before further handling.
