Petrosen: Our ambition is to make Senegal an oil and gas giant
The government’s ambition is, through the Société des pétroles du Sénégal (Petrosen), to turn the country into a future hydrocarbon giant, with export revenues approaching 900bn CFA francs ($1.5bn) over the period 2023-2025, according to national forecasts. A little over forty years after its creation, Petrosen is now in the big league.
The facility is named after Senegal’s first president Leopold Sédar Senghor. It is designed to process 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 130 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and 145,000 barrels of water injection per day. The FPSO will have storage capacity of 1.3 million barrels of crude oil.

Senegal’s First Big Oil and Gas Set for 2023 Driven by FSPO
The Sangomar Offshore and Sangomar Deep oil fields lie 100 km south of Dakar, Senegal’s capital, covering 7,490 km2. Here, Woodside, through contractor Diamond Offshore Drilling, Ocean BlackRhino FPSO completed a 23-well drilling campaign in September 2021- one of the largest globally at the time.
