Artisanal Milling of Palm Oil in Cameroon
Cameroon is ranked the world’s 13th largest producer of palm oil. In 2010, it was estimated that Cameroon produced 230,000 tons annually (MINADER, pers. com). Oil palm production in Cameroon increased following the drop in the prices of cocoa and coffee in the early 1990s, which at that time were the major commercial farming crops in the country.
However, they can broadly be categorized into two groups that correspond to capacity and crude palm oil (CPO) extraction rates: mechanized systems and fully manual, hand mills. In Cameroon, palm oil contributes to nearly 80% of edible oil demand, 30% of which is estimated to come from non-industrial mills (Frank et al., 2011).

Palm oil press machine
Palm Oil Press Station: Separate palm fruit and kernel, and palm oil press machine can obtain CPO (crude palm oil) and palm kernel. The adoption of double screw and hydraulic oil press machine can greatly improving working efficiency during palm oil production. Palm fruits through elevator and conveyors, enters into upper steaming boiler of oil

Although Cameroon, the largest palm oil producer in Central Africa, produced more than 450,000 tons in 2020, it still imports about 60,000 tons a year to meet its domestic demand. Most of the imported palm oil comes from Indonesia, Malaysia and Gabon.
Oil palm expansion and deforestation in Southwest Cameroon
Deforestation for palm oil production is often attributed to large-scale, agro-industrial expansion. Here, Ordway et al. show that much recent expansion in Southwest Cameroon can be attributed to

Case Study on Reducing Food Loss in Palm Oil in Cameroon
Cameroon is ‘Africa in miniature’ as it is home to 90% of Africa’s ecological systems. A large part of Cameroon is under the Congo basin, which holds over 15% of the world’s remaining tropical forests. In 2019, the crude palm oil (CPO) production in Cameroon was 350,000 MT while the demand is much higher, making Cameroon a net importer of palm oil. To meet the growing demand for palm
This research work is focused on the design and construction of a palm kernel oil extraction machine. The machine was designed and fabricated using locally available materials. The machine was evaluated for performance and the results obtained show that the mechanical method is more efficient (66.07%) than the traditional method (37.69%).
