Recent advances in green soybean oil extraction: A review
According to USDA [1], the production of soybeans worldwide in 2020/2021 was about 360,000 thousand metric tons. The soybean seeds are mainly destined for protein, edible oil, and biodiesel production. The main components of the seeds are proteins (40 wt%), lipids (20 wt%), carbohydrates (15 wt%), and ashes (5 wt%).
This dissertation aimed to study the extraction efficiency of green solvents during accelerated solvent extraction of soybean oil. Five green solvents, 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (2-MeTHF), alpha-pinene, cyclopentyl methyl ether (CPME), ethyl lactate, and t-butyl methyl ether (TBME), were chosen based on the literature, solubility, and viscosity.
Thesis (Pulsed ultrasound-assisted solvent extraction of oil
The current study focused on pulsed ultrasound-assisted solvent extraction (PUASE) of oil from soybeans using the solvent mixture hexane-isopropanol (3:2 v/v) (HIP). A probe resonating at a
Aqueous extraction processing technologies, having advanced in recent years, may be a viable alternative to hexane extraction to separate oil and protein from soybeans. Different extraction strategies incorporating various modes of comminution, extraction buffers, and enzymes allow production of a range of oil and protein products, but also
EVALUATION OF THE PARAMETERS AFFECTING THE SOLVENT EXTRACTION
Soybean is grown primarily for its protein content and secondarily for its oil; it is an excellent protein supplement for enriching cereal diet. The primary processing of soybean before oil extraction include cleaning, cracking, flaking and conditioning, these ruptures the oil cells, for efficient extraction. Most modern oil extraction industries use the solvent extraction process and the
Despite the fact that soybean oil extraction with hexane is more efficient, in terms of a more concentrated miscella, the outcomes obtained in this study revealed that is possible to exhaust the raw material with ethanol, and that a high oil recovery value can be reached when a S/F = 3/1 is employed. Although the extract obtained with ethanol
Characterisation and Process Development of Supercritical
This work describes and analyses the extraction of soybean oil using supercritical carbon dioxide as a solvent from the point of view of both operative method and pre-treatment of the raw material. The best conditions for soybean oil extraction were obtained at a pressure of 300 bar, a temperature of 40°C and a solvent flow rate of 1.8 L/min
Soybean oil extraction techniques were studied in which solvent was recirculated or pumped once through a suspension of soybean tissue. Both refractive index and ultraviolet absorbance were used to monitor the extraction continuously. Slices of soybean tissue showed rapid extraction from damaged tissue, followed by slow extraction from intact
EVALUATION OF PROCESS PARAMETERS IN ..., Wiley Online Library
The oil extraction makes possible for the industry to establish, the best operational conditions, that results in energy saving and improvement of hexane recovery. In this sense, the experimental design methodology was used in order to optimize the process of soybean oil extraction in an industrial environment.
This work reports the use of experimental design for the assessment of the effects of process parameters of the soybean oil extraction in an industrial environment. A central composite rotatable design was carried out and the independent variables were soyflakes (27 to 41 mm), miscella concentration (25 to 39%) and solvent temperature (57 to 63C).
