Full article: A narrative review on nutraceutical, food and industrial applications of flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum. L), Taylor & Francis Online
Compared to many other vegetable oils, such as soybean or rapeseed oil, flaxseed oil has a lower viscosity, making it simpler to process and refine (Gupta et al., Citation 2021). Also, the cetane number of flaxseed oil, a gauge of its ignition quality, is high.
Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) is a commercial oilseed that produces triglyceride oil that is a rich source of linolenic acid. Many Linum species are related to flaxseed but only L. usitatissimum L. is grown for commercial production of oil. Seeds of Linum (1.5–5.5 mm in diameter) are flat and oval with a pointed tip though there is substantial variation in seed shape (Fig. 1).
The composition, extraction, analysis, bioactivities, bioavailability and applications in food system of flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) oil: A
Some researchers found that the flaxseed oil extracted by supercritical CO 2 had higher content of ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acids, phenols and lignans (Khattab et al., 2013), and the yield was about 27% higher than mechanical pressing (Pilat and Zadernowski, 2010, ).
EDIBLE OIL INDUSTRY MAPPING 5 which is a faster process, achieves higher yields, and avoids degradation due to heat which can occur during mechanical processes. Using a combination of both methods, oil processors can recover about 99% of the oil
Scoping Study on Ethiopian Sesame Value Chain
Indeed, productivity varied under a narrow band of 0.7 MT/ha-0.85 MT/ha during the period. Productivity grew at average annual rate of 0.7% and this growth was due mainly to the rapid growth during 2006-2010. Excluding the 2006-2010 period there was an average annual decline of 0.5% in sesame yields. Figure 1.
Flaxseed is emerging as an important functional food ingredient because of its rich contents of α-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3 fatty acid), lignans, and fiber. Flaxseed oil, fibers and flax lignans have potential health benefits such as in reduction of cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, autoimmune and neurological disorders. Flax protein helps
The composition, extraction, analysis, bioactivities, bioavailability and applications in food system of flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) oil: A
Background Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) oil is an excellent functional oil containing various unsaturated fatty acids, mainly composed of linolenic acid, which is believed to have a variety of beneficial physiological and functional properties. However, the conversion efficiency of linolenic acid in the human body is low, and the research on flaxseed oil lacks a systematic review

Flaxseed: A Potential Source of Food, Feed and Fiber
The stem yields good quality fiber having high strength and durability. The seed provides oil rich in omega-3, digestible proteins, and lignans. In addition to being one of the richest sources of α-linolenic acid oil and lignans, flaxseed is an essential source of high quality protein and soluble fiber and has considerable potential as a source of phenolic compounds.
